Tarpon Coast Cottage

For anglers looking to pursue juvenile tarpon on the fly, Tarpon Coast Lodge accesses the most prolific tarpon fishery in the Caribbean and arguably in the world.

Mystic Oceanside seagrass flats punctuated with countless mangrove lined creeks make this destination a must for every fly angler’s list. Sight casting to tarpon in knee deep, gin clear water, is the norm. A true last frontier for fishing tarpon in virgin waters know to only a few savvy anglers.

Located on Isla Arena, on the most Norther border of Campeche, it is far from any other lodges or day trippers from Campeche City. The only other boats you will likely encounter are local fisherman targeting conch, stone crab, and pulpo.

Tarpon Coast Lodge is located on the beach in a new, two-story building with four rooms. All are facing the beach and have an ocean view, allowing for cool ocean breezes. Each spacious, oversized room has two queen size beds and huge private bathrooms. Rooms are equipped with A/C, ceiling fans, closets for storage, and tables for prepping gear. Daily housekeeping service keeps the room spotless and replace towels and bottled water. Although there is a separate formal dining room, most guests enjoy hanging out under the shade of our ocean front palapa.

Meals are prepared in the formal the dining building and served in an open air setting. Breakfast service starts at 5:00am. Lunch is on the boat unless doing split full-days. Dinner is traditional seafood dishes prepared under the watchful eyes of Chef Lupita.

The fly fishing program at Tarpon Coast Lodge is based around the tides and may consist of fishing a full day on the flats or fishing a split day. Split days find you fishing at 6:00am on the Oceanside flats, returning late morning for a siesta and lunch, and then heading back out in the late afternoon to fish the nearby creeks until dark.

Fly fishing is done with floating lines matched with 8 or 9 weight fly rods. Sparsely dressed and surface type flies are your go-to patterns. The guides at Tarpon Coast Lodge were all born and raised on Isla Arena. The fly fishing guides know the area intimately and the tarpon’s many routines.

Fishing is done from traditional Mexican pangas. The pangas have an ample casting deck and dry storage
