Minnivalalækur from source to mouth in Þjórsá

There is no other stream in the world like Minnivalalækur. The crystal clear and fertile spring water provides the environment for the best trout fishing habitat in Iceland. The stream originates not far from the cottage directly among the lava and thus provides special conditions for insects, which are crucial for the local trout spawning grounds.

This location is better for more experienced anglers due to the rapidly changing water conditions, but the trophy trout are well worth the effort.

At the very beginning of the season, from April 1, you can look forward to active trout and interesting catches, for which larger larvae and streamers are recommended at this time.

Spring is generally the most popular for trout fishing at this location.

During the transition to the summer months, the situation gets more difficult for anglers and dry fly fishing begins.

In mid-summer, anglers fish with small flies, use very thin lines and watch for trout along the shore, which are easy to see thanks to the crystal water.

As fall approaches, anglers favor larger flies due to increased trout activity.

Accommodation

The cottage is located in a small birch grove with a beautiful view of the world-famous volcano Mt. Hekla. You can only book the entire property, which ensures absolute privacy and space for relaxation.

In the cottage, there are four furnished double bedrooms, two bathrooms with showers, a kitchen, a dining area, and a living room. On the terrace behind the cottage, there is a hot tub, which is ideal for relaxation after a long day of fishing. Gas grill, oven, stove, two refrigerators – one with a freezer, and a dishwasher are available on-site.

Check-in is possible from 2:00 PM. The price includes self-catering, however, full-service can be arranged upon request. Upon departure, guests are required to take care of the final cleaning and dispose of the waste.
