The fishing lodge in Punta Allen, located in Ascension Bay, is consistently rated as one of the best fly-fishing lodges in the entire Caribbean.

The lodge is located in an international nature park and in the UN Conservation Area known as Sian Ka’an National Park, which covers an area of ​​approximately 1,300,000 acres of the best fishing platforms. The bay is rated as one of the best fly fishing locations in the world when hunting Bonefish, Snook and Tarpon.

 

The waters offer excellent opportunities for fly fishing in their pristine places and mangrove shores.

Whether you are an experienced saltwater fly fisherman or just testing your fly fishing skills for the first time. All guides in Ascension Bay are highly qualified, excellent teachers and take a week with them to take your saltwater fly fishing skills to the next level. The guides speak excellent English, are incredible boaters and are masters at finding fish in any weather.

FISHING PROGRAM

In Ascension Bay, there are two fly guides on each boat. This means that each angler will have individual attention from an experienced guide. Guides have been familiar with the Ascension Bay area and have been fly fishing for more than 15 years. They are polite, friendly and speak excellent English.

 

Fishing days begin with coffee at 06:00, followed by a hearty breakfast at 07:00. Whenever you are ready to go fishing after breakfast, guides will be ready as well. There is no time when you have to return to the cottage. The only rule is to return to a delicious dinner! Appetizers start at 18:00 and full dinner at 19:00.

 

All boats use waterproof radios (which obtain up-to-date weather information and communicate with the home base), life jackets and first aid kits.

Species of fish caught

Huge flocks of bonefish are called Ascension Bay in Mexico their home and are getting bigger every year. Bonefish in Ascension Bay, which in the past had averaged a few pounds, now weighs an average of 3 to 5 pounds, with cuts up to ten pounds.

The average fly fisherman, who focuses only on the Bonefish, should have no problem catching up to twenty fish a day. Fly fishing in the bay is excellent all year round, the best months are November to the end of September.

Ascension Bay is a excelent  nursery between five and fifty pounds with trophy pieces over a hundred pounds. The mangrove coves and lagoons that surround the bay are home to a healthy year-round tarpon population.

During the late spring and summer months of May, June, July and August, huge migrating tarpons pass through the forefront of Ascension Bay.

The warmer the weather, the better the fishing.

Snooks under 40 pounds are constantly stalking the edges of mangroves.

During the late fall and winter months, Ascension Bay witnesses an incredible migration and pre-crop ritual of mature snook. The largest fish in Ascension Bay are only a few months old and the view of shallow water is the best in the world!

ACCOMMODATIONS

The nine rooms accommodate a total of 18 fishermen and are equipped with air conditioning, ceiling fans, tiled floors, locally made furniture, fly tying table, two beds with a fixed mattress, a full library of popular books on fishing and nature, internet service, rod stands and private bathroom with hot water and satellite TV.

Although the town of Punta Allen tries to generate its own electricity, has limited service during the day and none at night, cottage generators provide electricity to clients twenty-four hours a day.

 

Enjoy the private beach on comfortable, upholstered loungers and make use of the daily beach bar and barbecue for daily specials. Take a dip in the beautiful Caribbean Ocean at your fingertips and try snorkeling.

The beautiful, oversized freshwater pool is a great place to relax after a long day of fishing.

 

The three chefs draw on their extensive knowledge of regional foods. Each of them adds its own taste and individualized touch without losing the essence of Yucatan cuisine. Dinner is served in an air-conditioned dining room and is always a great experience. You start with a regional soup such as Sopa de Lima, Lentejas or Albondigas. Then enjoy fresh and varied daily dishes such as whole grilled snapper, seasonal lobster, beef Arrachera, Tamales Rojo, Enchiladas Verde or Mole de Pollo. Served with fresh vegetables and homemade tortillas.

TRAVEL DETAILS

Fly to Cancun Intl. airport (CUN). There are daily flights from almost anywhere in the world.

Once you are in Cancún, you will meet representatives of the cottage, who will take you to the cottage by private delivery. If you arrive before noon, you may be able to take a water taxi from Tulum. Each variant lasts approximately three hours, and is an easy and comfortable ride.
