Boats and Equipment

Camp Halibut places great emphasis on safety and high-quality boats, which is essential given the conditions in northern Norway. The sea can often be rough, and conditions can change quickly when the wind picks up. Trips are therefore always planned according to the weather forecast and sea conditions.

The fleet consists of modern and highly stable Arronet 23.5 SPT 2 boats powered by 200 HP Yamaha engines. The boats are equipped with radar, powerful spotlights, deck lighting, rod holders, anchors and comprehensive safety equipment.

They are also fully equipped for handling large fish, including landing hooks and lifting straps for halibut, measuring tape, emergency equipment and a first-aid kit.

For guided trips, Camp Halibut also offers an Arronet 30CC guide boat measuring 9.4 metres and equipped with a cabin. Its larger size provides greater comfort and better performance in challenging sea conditions.

Main features:

  • Arronet 23.5 SPT 2 + Yamaha 200 HP
  • Radar on every boat
  • Stable design suitable for offshore fishing
  • Comprehensive safety equipment
  • Plenty of rod holders
  • Equipment for handling large halibut
  • Spotlights and deck lighting
  • Bluetooth speakers
  • Assistance with planning trips according to weather conditions

Fishing Facilities

Camp Halibut offers excellent facilities for sea fishing, including a spacious filleting station, freezers and drying room. The close proximity of the accommodation, boats, jetty and fishing facilities makes the camp very convenient for multi-day fishing trips.

Note: Prices are indicative and based on the camp’s current price list. We will be happy to prepare a current offer for your specific dates and group size.

Fishing on Sørøya

Sørøya is one of Norway’s top sea fishing destinations, renowned for its huge cod, halibut and large redfish. You can also target wolffish, plaice, ling and other species. The area has produced numerous exceptional catches and record-sized fish.

Top Fishing Spots

Storskalltaren – a legendary offshore reef located around 30 nautical miles from Sørøya. It is one of Norway’s premier spots for large cod and halibut. Cod over 20 kg are not uncommon, with the largest recorded catch weighing 35.1 kg and measuring 161 cm. The journey from the camp takes approximately 1 hour 20 minutes and is weather dependent.

Kamøya – a highly productive area closer to shore, offering excellent fishing for cod, halibut and other predatory species. Its sheltered location makes it more accessible in less favourable conditions.

Fishing Season

March – early April: Peak season for large skrei cod. Challenging weather, but an excellent chance of trophy-sized fish.

April: Excellent cod fishing continues, with generally better weather than in March. Cod over 25 kg are still common.

May – mid-June: Great fishing for cod, wolffish and plaice, with the main halibut season getting underway.

Mid-June – August: Ideal for a first visit, with more stable weather and excellent mixed-species fishing. Very good halibut, cod and redfish fishing.

September – mid-October: Peak halibut season, with more large fish available close to the camp. Excellent plaice fishing as well.

Sørøya offers outstanding fishing throughout the season, whether you are looking for trophy cod, big halibut or varied summer fishing.
