FISHING IN VELFJORD
The resort is based mainly on fishing in the fjord. However, with hundreds of lakes in this area, freshwater fishing is worth a try. There are also acceptable alternatives for salmon fishing.
8 FJORDS
The Velfjord has the shape of a large hand with smaller branches 2 to 8 km long. The main fjord is 20 km long and 2 to 4 km wide. There are depths of up to 500 meters.
Fishing is possible in virtually any weather – in one of the branches there is always a protected corner.
At night, the whole fjord is rather quiet. We highly recommend night fishing, as there is a 24-hour light from mid-May to the end of July.
The resort is located in the innermost part of the Heggfjord, 4 km long branch. You can fish almost from your front porch, although excursions to the fjord will soon prove much more beneficial.
The special geology has made the bottom of the fjord very rough and therefore not suitable for large fishing boats with their large nets. So there are only a few small professional fishing boats in the fjord.
There is a two to three meter difference between tides. Combined with the significant difference between tides, it provides a huge water change twice a day. Therefore, a large amount of oxygen and nutrition is far in the smallest fjords.
Production capacity is thus significantly higher than in the fjords in the south of Norway and provides enough fish.
The main species are cod, haddock and redfish. Other species such as herring, wolffish, mackerel, halibut and others are also regularly caught here.
ACCOMMODATIONS
At present, up to 46 guests can be accommodated in 12 apartments with 26 bedrooms, in two buildings by the sea. All apartments have comfortable beds at least 90 cm wide without bunk beds and also separate wardrobes for all guests.
Each apartment also has well-located bathrooms, fully equipped kitchens, satellite TV and internet. Bed linen and towels are included.
Apartments 1 to 6 are all in the main building, which also has a reception.
The second building is located near the port and has apartments 11 to 17.
The resort has water on two sides.
