FISHING
Fishing Season: April 30 – June 14, August 20 – September 21
The Dalälven River is a beautiful 500 km-long river and one of the top 10 fishing destinations in Sweden. It offers nearly 30 species of fish, including salmon, sea trout, brown trout, grayling, pike, perch, and more. The river begins at the Norwegian border, flows through Sweden, and empties into the Bothnian Bay. The last 200 km of the river is known as Nedre Dalälven. This river stands out from other European rivers due to its varying currents and stunning lake sections dotted with numerous large and small islands.
Zander and Perch
For perch and zander enthusiasts, there are many flowing sections, deep slopes, and spots perfect for trolling, vertical fishing, or bait fishing. Every year, catches exceeding 10 kg are reported.
Pike
The area around the island is ideal for pike fishing – the season runs from mid-April to November. The campsite area is known for large pike, often over 10 kg. Popular methods include dragging plugs, jerkbait, or fishing with large lures. The best chances for a catch are in spring and autumn.
For pike anglers, this place is truly a paradise. Around countless islands and bays with dense reed beds and water lilies, you can almost feel the pike nearby – it really “smells like pike”!
Fly Fishing
15 km upstream is Gysinge, a fly-fisher’s paradise for trout and grayling. Calm and wild river sections, islands, and tributaries offer experiences for both beginners and experienced anglers.
Here you will also find fishing cabins tucked into nature, where you can light a fire and grill your lunch.
Salmon and Sea Trout
In Älvkarleby (30 km downstream), you can fish for salmon (average weight 9 kg, record over 27 kg) and sea trout (record 13.1 kg). This area is ideal for fly fishing, either from the shore or from a boat. Salmon start arriving in early May, but the main salmon fishing season is from June to the end of July. Sea trout fishing is very popular from January to April and from September to October.
For Gysinge and Älvkarleby, a special fishing permit is required, which can be purchased locally.
